Chocolate-Covered Macaroon Ghost Pops

I am the first person to admit that I am the biggest scaredy cat. I am the easiest person to scare,  in fact, all you have to do is leave a room and then re-enter and chances are I will jump from fright. That is rather pathetic to admit outloud, I’m thinking…

Yet knowing this, it still does not deter me from watching shows like “Celebrity Ghost Stories” or various others pertaining to apparitions and haunted places. I should really stop this habit but sometimes I watch them before I go to bed, as if I am proving to the ghosts that may live under my bed that I am not afraid of them. Yeah, because that works Cara…

What does end up working is the light in my hallway that remains on throughout the duration of the night. Just in case…or something.

Raw Chocolate-Covered Macaroon Ghost Pops Recipe

Raw Vegan, Gluten, egg, dairy-free

Makes 6 Ghosts

  • 3/4 c. shredded coconut (unsweetend)
  • 1/4 c. almond flour
  • 1/4 c. coconut butter (not oil–you want that nice coconutty flavor)
  • 1 date, chopped + 1 Tb water (blended until paste-like)
  • 2 tsp maple syrup (not raw)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 batch of raw chocolate
  • 6 lollipop sticks

  1. Combine all ingredients into a food processor until a nice, sticky dough forms.
  2. Form 6 ghosts with hands. Place on a plate lined with wax paper.
  3. Place lollipop sticks on the tops of each ghosts.
  4. Gently dip each ghost pop into melted raw chocolate to coat the sides.  ***I had extra chocolate left over (about 1 Tb) so I added some hot rice milk to it and it made the BEST hot chocolate, p.s.!***
  5. Add eyes and mouth with a toothpick dipped into the chocolate. Place on plate and set in fridge for 15 minutes.

    • Eeeeeee, I love Halloween so much, can’t you tell? 😉

  2. I am so easy to scare too! It’s not at the time I’m scared either- it’s when I’m in bed and my imagination goes wild.

These are so cute, but I mean, what else would I expect with these coming from you? 😉

    October 22, 2012
    • Oh goodness, I am terrible when I let my imagination go wild too…

      October 25, 2012
  3. I’m the same way! Ghost stuff totally freaks me out, and yet I love Celebrity Ghost Stories. While totally cheesy, of course, those reenactments are creepy when they suddenly have the ghost appear behind someone or around their bed. That being said, those chocolate covered macaroon ghosts are welcome to haunt my kitchen anytime! Cuteness! 🙂

    • The even funnier part is when you tell yourself that it’s not a big deal, that you aren’t scared even though you have goosebumps all over your body and then when you are lying in bed, the covers are pulled over your head…

  4. hey just checking out fellow Mofo-ers! These are so cute, i think i’ll feature them on my weekly round up tomorrow. 🙂

  7. “Those look so good Mummy, can we make some?” asked my 6 year old daughter.
I really must stop looking at your blog where the children are up. 😉
Another treat to the ‘must make’ list.

  8. Oh NO! I love to scare people, we would be a fun combination. 🙂 LOL! I do have to say that I am easily startled. Not by scary movies or anything, but I ALWAYS know my surroundings and when it happens that I don’t, I get startled.

    October 19, 2012
    • We sound like we are very similar about knowing our surroundings. And wwould be a fun combo! I love to scare people also. I like hiding behind the wall and grabbing my bf’s foot every time he walks out of the bathroom. I’m terrible at being sneaky but it’s still hilarious.

  9. Haha another adorable and amazing treat! You have been a busy lady Cara!

    October 19, 2012
    • And I have the eye twitch to prove it 🙂

  10. Laurel #

Time to purchase supplies I guess although I’d probably cover the entire thing in chocolate and have mounds bars knowing me. One more thing. Ghosts are incorporeal. They don’t need to live UNDER the bed, the live ON it! Haven’t you seen “Caspar” lately?

    October 19, 2012
    • I LOVE THAT MOVIE!!! I need to watch it again 🙂 But you see Laurel, my ghosts live under my bed because that is the scariest place to find one. Eeek!

      October 25, 2012
  11. These are too cute!

And I admit it too. I am Sooo jumpy! My cats jump up on our bed throughout the night and I wake up frantically every time. My husband gets so annoyed.

    • I would think that was an earthquake every time. And that would SO freak me out!!

      October 25, 2012
  12. oh my gosh how cute are THOSE?!?! i bet they’re super tasty too!

    October 19, 2012

  13. When my husband and I were dating, he lived in Atlanta and I lived about 3 hours north of there in NC. I used to watch X-Files on Sunday night before I left. There was never a problem staying awake on the way home. Whatever was on that night was riding with me in the back seat. Also, I don’t like to have my back to a door. Or a window. Or an open room. ‘Cuz that’s where ghosts can grab you from. Also, I can’t watch Twin Peaks in the night time. Or scary movies. Or tv shows about ghost hunting. Or Caspar the Friendly Ghost cartoons. Perhaps eating a few (dozen) ghosts will help me work through my fears…

    October 19, 2012
    • hehehe. I remember when you were telling me that at dinner 🙂 Aaaaaaaaahhhh, I want you to come back so we can spend more time together–that was fun. YOU are fun.

  15. Boo! Me too, scaredy cat here, even though I tend to be drawn to the dark side. I might have to make these cuties with the night light on. There’s a show called “Celebrity Ghost Stories”?

    October 19, 2012
    • Ack! You scared me!
And yes, you HAVE to watch that show. It’s just as it sounds: Celebrities talking about their strange encounters with the dead. Eek.

      October 25, 2012
  16. There are too cute and they sound delicious! I love these Halloween treats, I wish I was hosting a party to share these at this year. 🙂

    October 19, 2012

      October 25, 2012
  17. Haha, I used to be the same way – super easy to spook. I’ve gotten better, though. Love the macaroons – they’re spooky, but also adorable! Nicely done. 🙂

    October 19, 2012
    • So how does one improve on their easily spooked nature? Inquiring minds want to know!
