Turkey Kabobs

I have no idea how this theme:

has carried through for this long.

I’m spending too much time in the produce section

and possibly scaring all the employees.

I must look extremely suspicious.

Walking up and down the aisles,

with a funny “What can I do with this?”

look on my face…

for 30 minutes at a time…

everyday….

with nothing in my hands.

But if only they knew that I was actually creating this:

*Turkey Kabobs*

maybe the shifty eyes wouldn’t frequent my way as much.

Oh who am I kidding?

I deserve the strange looks.

Even this guy is starting to keep his eye on me.

He’s onto me, me thinks.

Is this just the madness talking?

I think so too.

Can you tell my eye is starting to twitch?

Turkey Kabobs Recipe

Makes 1 kabob

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1/2 pear, stem sliced off
  • 14 raspberries
  • 7 blueberries
  • 2 vegan chocolate chips (or raisins)
  • 1/2 cashew
  • slice of a strawberry
  • 1 skewer
  • 7 toothpicks

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Slide the skewer into the pear half.
  2. Assemble the “feathers” by grouping 1 blueberry sandwiched between 2 raspberries; held together by 1 toothpick each.
  3. Place the toothpicks in the back of the pear.

     4.   Gently insert the eyes, beak and wattle (I was able to just place the strawberry slice onto the pear and it stuck).

Enjoy your very own vegan turkey kabob.

I had it for a snack yesterday…

and boy, did it hit the spot!

  2. Haha! I go to the grocery store and do the same thing. Sometimes I go in and wander about but I can’t decide what to get. So I leave, and then end up going back a couple hours later or late at night after class. I’m sure the workers at the store I go to think I’m a nutter. But I’m just generally indecisive anyway.

This turkey is so cute! My little sister wants to make it, so I went and bought some bosc pears tonight for her. I’ll bring them to her tomorrow 🙂

Now THAT’s a turkey! One million bonus points for the fact that I’m not allergic to one single bit of it. Whoopee yeah and hallelujah. Except it might win the stare contest. I might have to cover its eyes. A frickin dorable Cara. No need to doubt your sanity. that turkey knew its time was up and was checking for an opportunity to fly the coop before you swooped in and gobbled him down. He knew his time had come. Poor Tom.

    November 9, 2011
    • Thank the Lord almighty that I *finally* made you a turkey that you aren’t allergic to! Tom…haha

      November 9, 2011

    November 9, 2011
    • Got some more looks today. Now it’s just the “Hey, I know you!” kind of look. I’m losing my creepy factor 🙂

      November 9, 2011
  14. This is a turkey I can get behind! He looks delicious/adorable. Maybe anything on a stick is cuter? Hmmmm. I could eat about a thousand of those berry skewers.

    November 9, 2011
    • I think you are right. Sticks increase the cuteness factor by 11 points at least. And we all know that you are judgmental when it comes to your food, Nikki… 🙂

      November 9, 2011
  15. Just when I think your turkeys couldn’t get any cuter, you come up with this kabob! ADORABLE!!I agree with bigfatnoodle that your creativity never ceases to amaze me either!

    November 9, 2011
    • Oh Amanda, stop! You are making this girl blush. I’m starting to panic though because I think I am running out of ideas. Eek!

      November 9, 2011
  16. it’s a healthy dessert kabob! these are so cute<3 i loved the image of you in the grocery store. do the employees know you by name yet? 🙂

    November 9, 2011
    • Not yet, however there is one guy that always asks if I need any help. Apparently he understands the, “What in the world am I going to do?” look on my face. This Monday he gave me this smile that said, “You are here a lot, aren’t you?” Yup. Get used to me, pal 🙂

      November 9, 2011
      • HAHA! get used to me, pal. that’s hilarious 😉 “you know, just lookin for some stuff to make edible vegan turkeys..the usual.”

        November 9, 2011
        • I saw the same guy just now. He gave me that look again so I filled it with words, “I know, I’m here almost everyday huh?” 🙂

          November 9, 2011
  17. Your creativity never ceases to amaze me, thanks for sharing.
