Vegan 3 Musketeers

At the suggestion of one of my awesome readers/blog favs,

I thought I would run with the idea and accept the challenge

to create a gluten free AND vegan…

Three Musketeers Bar.

I knew that the real trick was figuring out what I could use for the center.

I needed something that not only remained intact

but also gave a soft, fluffy, chewy texture.

So…

Wanna know my secret ingredient for the filling?

These tasty morsels, mixed with a dash of chocolate chips,

gave just the right amount of taste and texture that I was looking for.

Crazy enough, I knew that I had something

that was similar to the real version.

(I am currently eating one all in the name of research

in order to stand firmly on my claims).

Yup, I was right.

Tastes like a Three Musketeers.

So without further ado, let’s melt our gluten free AND vegan Dandies

*(which tastes just like the real thing)*

and get our vegan chocolate on!

Shall we make candy bars?…

Let’s!

DIRECTIONS:

  1. Put the ingredients into a microwave safe bowl and heat it up for 45 seconds-1 minute in 20 second increments. Stir at each stop.
  2. Immediately plop the center onto a piece of wax paper (go quickly because it gets sticky fast!)
  3. Freeze for 5 minutes only.
  4. Temper your chocolate. Coat your candy bar mold with it, making sure it is completely covered.
  5. Cut out small rectangles that fit into your candy mold. Cover with remaining chocolate. Freeze 10 min.
  6. Or if you don’t have a mold,  dip center into chocolate, coating it completely, then all to set on wax paper.

My candy jar is getting fuller by the moment…

I am going to need someone to come over and eat these suckers with me.

There is only so much chocolate one girl can handle.

Any takers?

I think I’m obligated at this point. I’ll probably just be reporting on the really sweet flop I end up with! 🙂

    • You are right–it IS your obligation now 🙂 muahahaha

And now I have to make my own marshmallows. How cruel. Just because I’m heavily allergic to soy. Hmph. Well, it does get me out of eating PACKAGED candy bars. Plus I’ve really been wondering if I could use agar agar to make a marshmallow. 🙂

    October 23, 2011
    • I guess I should figure out a homemade marshmallow recipe also because I too have a slight allergy to soy. Whoops. hehe. If you do agar to make the marshmallow, you better let me know! I’d be fascinated to hear about it, Laurel!

I’m wondering if some Ricemellow creme would work in place of the melted dandies…I think I’ll give it a try.

    October 22, 2011
    • Absolutely. I just did the Dandies because I entered this recipe into a Dandies contest 🙂

  4. This is really hard for me, but I will take one for the team and eat all of your leftover candy. I know, I know. I’m just a giver.

    October 21, 2011
    • It’s as if you were put onto this earth for mere sacrifice. I’m impressed. You ARE a giver 🙂

  5. Ok, screw the Mars bars, these will do just fine.

    October 19, 2011

    • I DO need to stop, you are right. But I can’t. Help! Not only is my stomach hating me but my face has broken out too 😦 But it tastes so good….it’s a vicious cycle I’ve created.

  7. NO WAY! Those used to be one of my favorites! I will have to try these!

    October 18, 2011
    • You should totally make them, Cassie! I had to try another one today to REALLY see if they were comparable (I have a bad memory) and they actually are good… Who knew? Thank you Dandies!

      October 18, 2011
  8. wow! what a clever use for Dandies! Aren’t they having a mofo contest? I think I remember something about winning a bunch of dandies, and all you had to do was invent and post a recipe with dandies during mofo. Because, these look perfect!

    October 18, 2011
    • Oh you better believe I submitted this to them, Amey 🙂 Year’s supply of Dandies, here I come… If I win I will give you a bag, just because…

      October 18, 2011
  9. Those are awesome! I don’t maintain a GF diet, but I do look for ways to reduce gluten (and I have a lot of GF friends … one in particular will positively keel over when she sees these 🙂 ).

    October 18, 2011
    • Your GF friends will definitely fall over with chocolate envy. Happy Halloween to all us gluten-intolerant 🙂 Thank you for your sweet comment!

      October 18, 2011
  10. These look absolutely amazing!!! I’m gonna have to try this sometime 😉

    October 18, 2011
    • Yes you are, Melissa!

      October 18, 2011
  11. I’d definitely be able to help you. Not with these because of the soy in the dandies, but with the backlog of others. Another remarkable post!

    October 18, 2011
    • You can take down names or call out numbers of the lucky winners, how about that? 🙂 ha. Thank you Dawn!

      October 18, 2011
      • I could do that, but I was really talking about the backlog of other candy 😉
BTW, I passed on the Liebster Blog award to you. You can get directions on how to pick it up and award it to others on my post for today.

        October 19, 2011
        • Oh! Duh on my part– bahahaha!!!! I’m blonde Dawn and sometimes I am dense. You can definitely come on over for the others candies, yes! Please? And THANK YOU for the award!!! I’m seriously so honorede! I’m heading over there right now to receive it 🙂

          October 19, 2011

      October 18, 2011
  13. I’ll come over! Of course, I have no clue what state you live in! I have never craved candy as much as now since I started following your delicious blog. The texture on these looks great! I can’t wait to try them! 🙂

    October 18, 2011
    • I’m in California, Amanda. Los Angeles to be exact. You still coming? 😉

      October 18, 2011
  14. Me!Me!Me!Me!Me! I’m a taker! 🙂 In the most selfish, let-me-shove-all-that-right-in-my-face kinda way! I love Dandies! I got convicted about all my marshmallow eating last year when my sons went all mountain men on us and wanted to eat S’mores over the campfire every other day. I snarfed down like half a cow’s worth of gelatin over the course of the Summer. Dandies are perfect for S’mores. And now they’re perfect for “The Three Amigos!” And also, I was thinking later you can kiss me on the veranda. Farley, farley, farley, farley, faaaaaarley! PS, thanks for the shout-out, you’re awesome! 🙂

    October 18, 2011
    • Lips would be fine, Brooke (((doing the dance now in my head…The Threeee-aaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh migos!))) Or how about: Ka-kaw! Ka-kaw! *whistling* (said like a bird call) Look over here! Look over here!

      October 18, 2011
  15. Wowie! I love dandies!!!!!!! I now dub you Cara the candy queen.

    October 18, 2011
    • Does that mean I can finally put, “Ruler of the Sugar World” on my business cards???

      October 18, 2011
  16. Dandies have this curious way of disappearing in my house before they can be cooked into anything. Somehow they just seem to gravitate towards my mouth.

    These look so good though!

    October 18, 2011
    • This was the first time I have ever had a Dandie but now I see what you mean! I kept having to “taste” them to make sure that they were good. hehe.

      October 18, 2011
  17. SEND THOSE TO ME NOW!!!!!!!!!!! Three Musketeers = this grandma’s OTHER favorite candy bar. Oh my goooooooodness. I am so excited right now. Oh! And I have half a bag of dandies in my pantry. I just love when you come up with recipes that don’t make me take a trip to the grocery store. This might be moving too fast, but.. I love you.

    October 18, 2011
    • I do it all out of the love for you grams 🙂 And OF COURSE, I will send you some. Just stop yelling at me… haha

      October 18, 2011
  18. They look AWESOME!!! QUICK! You must send me some because I can’t get vegan dandies here and now I’ve seen this I can’t get them out of my head. Plus I’ll be doing you a service by protecting you from the onslaught of the sugar rush.
    You’re welcome.
    🙂

    October 18, 2011
    • You are always thinking of others, Jeni. It is your duty in this life. haha. You guys don’t have Dandies available? Not even if you ordered them online? Lame! Sending you some now…
